In repealing the 17th Amendment
I BELIEVE in repealing the 17th Amendment which took power away from the state legislature’s to appoint their U.S. Senators and elected them instead by popular vote. Since the passing of this amendment in 1911 the power of corporate tax lobbyist and special interest groups to influence legislation has created the corrupt monster that now exists in Washington D.C. Because of this the office of U.S. Senator has become a major stepping stone to high influence rather than an appointment to support states rights and effectively check the power of Congress.
The 17th Amendment has effectively taken away the state legislatures ability to decentralize power when necessary and appropriate. Repealing this amendment would give individual states more influence in the process of selecting federal judges and effectively modifying federal court orders. As it stands now the state legislatures are little more than lobbyist themselves when it comes to making any impact on the changing needs of our federal government process.
