I BELIEVE in a strong military. This Country has a responsibility to it’s Citizens to engage in war only as a last resort. For the sake of our children and our future we should exhaust every possible diplomatic solution, before a declaration of war is entertained. It is the responsibility of Congress to formally declare war before any hostile engagement is made with the enemy. Historically we know that freedom is best preserved by a strong military force equipped and enabled to defend its people and its way of life. Thomas Jefferson said, “From time to time, the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots.” Freedom is not free and the best way to guarantee freedom is to recognize that there are others out there who want to take it away and to strongly defend against that possibility. General Douglas McArthur once said, “In war there is no substitute for victory”.

Today we live in a world that has the power to destroy itself in total. The United States has only remained free because we have always been a people ready to defend ourselves and others against the tyrants and dictators who seek to rule this world. To do this we must equip our soldiers with the best military training and equipment available and keep our enemies aware of the cost of military aggression against us.

I advocate a non-interventionist’s foreign policy. I believe America is best protected and respected by following the Monroe doctrine and Washington’s advice to the Citizens of his time to stay out of entangling alliances. If history was an acceptable teacher then Congress should learn the error of it’s ways. Setting up regimes and tearing down governments has nothing but a potential to destroy our way of life. Practically every dictator or ruler we’ve put into power has turned into a bitter enemy. Castro, Sadam, Bin Laden, the Shah, and many others to be named are examples of this horrendous policy. We need to mind our own business, bring our troops home, and deal with the enormous problems here in this country. We should instead focus on our own border which is being overrun by illegal trespassers’.
